Tea Party Movement Loses Steam

advertisement

the collaboration between the official Republican establishment and the Tea Parties has not lasted into June.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

What "steam" did it ever have? If it hadn't been whipped up by Fox News no one would have noticed the "tea parties" anyway.

I agree with you, multifariousone

What steam is right....the louder a group is, the more they become suspect of their

agenda. Fox Noise, is a wonderful medium for that fact.......oh, did I say noise? instead of News?

America doesn't need tea parties, America needs everyone to get off their duff and

DO something in their own communities to help their fellow citizens. Complaining about

taxes or the possibility of that just gives me "rolling my eyes in my head" action.

America's best days are ahead of her, because of the citizens who want all American's to have jobs, healthcare and began to build back about American dreams.

Thanks!

Hey Arlene, it's good to see you pop up again.

The conservative movement in general has lost its steam. Its "leaders" are falling out one after another. They are without a moral compass at this point and lost in their own muck. America will get through this.

The problem with this movement is that it is not really a movement at all, it is an amalgamation of many different groups, some with real issues and some without real issues. Talking points are all over the place and their is no real leadership involved in creating a real movement.

Tea parties with a lot of lemons, in my opinion, will not go very far.

an amalgamation of many different groups, some with real issues and some without real issues.

I don't doubt that some of the attendees at the "tea parties" have real issues that they want addressed...don't we all! But what comes through many of the vocal people and the sign-carriers is almost a pure hatred of President Obama that I do not understand.

I agree with you that it is not a "real movement" because it seems to be based on some tenuous "everything is going to hell and it's all Obama's fault" type of rhetoric. I would be impressed if some of the people who have real concerns about their jobs/taxes/healthcare/etc. would turn to the Obama-haters and say "just shut up and let those of us with real issues talk".

Hi 6.1, you state: "...is almost a pure hatred of President Obama that I do not understand..." Then you do not understand RACISM, especially when it is mixed in with ENVY. This Racism becomes more paramount when you understand the philosophy of "Separation and Loss: the Grieving Process" from a mental health perspective. It all makes sense if you begin there.

Teabag parties are yesterday's news. It's already been tried, to no great effect, and this is not the best day to try this stunt again. This day should be reserved for a celebration of the founding of the greatest country on earth (and the last best hope for mankind). Why not just be a patriot today, and celebrate the beginnings of our great nation.

Happy 4th of July everybody. It's great to be an American. Enjoy the fireworks, and think of all those who have fought and died to keep this country free. Long live the U.S.A.

And to hell with the obstructionists. They are blind with rage and unable to see past their own anger (get over it folks, he's a liberal, a Democrat, a black man, a lawyer, a "community organizer" and so far, a damn far better president than the one that tore apart some of what made this the greatest nation on earth, and he's going to be around for a long time).

Happy 4th to you too. You are right, today should be a day to celebrate how great it is to be an American.

This country was founded on the very principles that the today's tea parties embrace I think our forefathers would be very proud of us, who do embrace the tea parties, that in this day and times people still have the ability and opportunity to disagree and protest.

Had it not been for the early tea parties, we might not be the great country that we are today. We should always be a patriot whether it be today or just an ordinary day. Happy 4th to all and enjoy today and celebrate the greatest country in the world.......and man's best hope for freedom........where the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness is what we make it and not what our government dictates for us.

God bless America and for all who embraces the values we were founded on.

I do not think it is an 'all one party' event. How would we know anything about the rallies since there was next to no media coverage, before or after? So much for unbiased reporting. However, whether the media does or does not report as they should, there is still a growing number of citizens that are very dissatisfied with the direction in which our country is being taken. You can deny all you want, call names and spew your hateful comments. Dividing us is their plan. Put aside all the party BS and start thinking about the US of A. There is much truth in the words “United we stand, divided we fall”. And here is another from John F. Kennedy in a speech at the White House, 1962: “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, will make violent revolution inevitable”.

cactusflower, you get it. There is a ever growing number of people very dissatisfied with obama. Do you realize that Obama has 28 czars that run the government, only answerable to him, and appointed by him. That is a power grab. That is why I am very against cap and trade. I was reading some of it, and there are provisions in the bill that limit how much water you use, limits on electricity use, 3 minute showers, etc. Not only will you get screwed by more taxes, the government has access to your personal lives. He is making the executive branch supreme. This is our country, I went to Vietnam, and I do not want to see Obama take over. I was blogging here recently on the honduran issue, and the thought occured to me that Obama could change the constitution, and we would have Obama as president forever, just like Hugo Chavez. Then this other guy in Honduras, who was going to change the constitution, so he could be president again. Things that make go hmmmmm........

If you think I am crazy, tell me, I can take criticism. Check out the 9/12 project online. Lots of people who think like yourself.

e there was next to no media coverage,

There was enough coverage that American's know that there were these silly "tea parties". But this died in the "MSM" because it was an event of no consequence and even of less interest to most Americans who viewed these stunts as nutty. It was a giant yawn to most in America.

Anyway, Fox gave it inordinate coverage so anyone who wanted to know about these "events" could find out all they wanted ad nauseum right there from Sean Hannity who, as I recall, broadcast his show from Atlanta I think it was.....

Read up. A constitutional amendment has to be ratified by 3/4 of the states. Hardly an easy thing to do. Learn before you speak. In fact, that would be good advice to all the Tea Party participants.

Read up, is right. Zelaya had already gone against their constitution and was planning to 'make changes' not allowed under their constitution. Dictators and Dictator-wanna-be's do not really worry about following a constitution. You cannot be so naive as to think 'it could never happen here, this is America'.

        That is a power grab.

This is a typical conservative movement paranoiac projection.

The discussion throughout the Bush years was about the unprecedented marshaling of power in the executive branch. Do you remember "signing statements", George Bush was unprecedented in the use of them. His "executive orders" are bone chilling.

"Czars" as you want to call them are what normal people call advisors. I'd say that there are at least 28 issues that need experts advising the president on.

President Obama has appointed yet another czar—you know, one of those people in his administration with a long title, huge portfolio and no budget to get anything done. This time, it's a worthy enough portfolio assigned to Lynn Rosenthal—fighting domestic violence. But it's a czar-like post of such little consequence, the public announcement was handled by Vice President Joe Biden, not President Obama.

This is typical of the nonsense disinformation being spread by conservatives today. Domestic violence is an issue that I know something about. It is a cancer in our society. When you have a cancer you seek a specialist which Lynn Rosenthal is. I am truly thankful to President Obama for recognizing the need to appoint someone to advise him on this issue. He is to commended for hiring experts in various fields of national importance. This type of reaction is typical of the conservative pathology that animates their movement today.

        3 minute showers, etc

The cap and trade bill passed by the House of Representatives deals with emissions of pollutents. I find nowhere in the bill any mention of limiting showers to 3 minutes. Where did you get this gem of information. I'd love to see a source for this.

By the way there is a looming global crisis. It's a water shortage. Read up on it.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_crisis

the government has access to your personal lives

More groundless hysteria. How would can and trade give government access to your personal live?

and I do not want to see Obama take over. I was blogging here recently on the honduran issue, and the thought occured to me that Obama could change the constitution, and we would have Obama as president forever,

If a majority of the people in two-thirds of the states agree to repeal the 22nd Amendment then the law will change. Until then the president is limited to two-terms. Which by the way I am opposed to as this amendment actually takes the decision as to who will president OUT of the hands of the people. If the people want to elect a president to successive terms then what is the problem?

Zelaya had already gone against their constitution and was planning to 'make changes' not allowed under their constitution. Dictators and Dictator-wanna-be's do not really worry about following a constitution.

Zelaya is the democratically elected president of his country. He was kidnapped in his pajamas and flown to another country and left there. The world has condemned the Honduran military and its co-conspirators for doing so. As of yesterday they were thrown out of the OAS and are about to be sanctioned by the UN. It was an illegal act supported by right wing crazies in the US because Rush Limbaugh and his ilk think that it's ok to stage a coup against "leftists" because they don't like someones politics. This is outrageous.

Check out HR 1 - it is already a law (stimulus bill) and under the guise of healthcare, they will have access to your personal records. There are many things buried in that bill and the cap & trade bill that are infringements on our freedoms and rights.

You also need to go back and read the first reports of Zelaya being 'ousted', before Chavez, Obama and the OAS put such a spin on it.

Our Constitution provides us with the right to dispose of a wrongful government, by force, if necessary. Why are you saying people of Honduras should not have the same right? Do you think permission is needed from a dictator to throw him out?

It's amusing to come on NV and see the two things that scare the hell out of the liberals, Palin and Tea Parties blasted in thread after thread by the lefties saying that they are meaningless or silly. You would think if they both really were as meaningless and silly as the left make them out to be then they wouldn't spen so much time having to demonize them. No, what we really have here is two cases of "Scared to death and don't know what else to do but lash out with bigotry and hatred". Yes the left may say that Palin and tea parties don't bother them, but the amount of seeded storied and drummed up hatred on here for both of them is proof-positive that they are absolutley terrified of both of them.
