Right-wing media figures have used the shooting at Fort Hood as an excuse to attack Islam and American Muslims in particular, with Debbie Schlussel, for example, urging readers to think of the alleged shooter "whenever you hear about how Muslims serve their country in the U.S. military."
I don't think I've ever been more ashamed of America than I was listening to O'Reilly tonight insinuating that what happened at Fort Hood.
O'Reilly and the his repugnant "guests" should be ashamed of the absurd accusations that are being made about this terrible tragedy.
Most Muslims are peace loving wonderful people. O'Reilly should go to bed this night in utter shame.
Timothy McVeigh was as Christian terrorist, right?
How dare he. How dare scumbags like Jerome Corzi intimated that this was an act of terrorism? This was the act of a lone insane man. Period.
Trolls stay away. I have no tolerance for rightist pukism tonight. You shame your country and your families. You deserve no recognition.
Any comments by rightist pukes will be deleted. Period. Complain if you want, I really don't care.
Let me tell you something, "multifariousone," first of all, you might want to rebrand yourself as "onefariousone" or "unifariousone" or "nonfariousone."
I am a life-long registered Democrat, a liberal when it comes to individual rights, as in rights to birth control, reproductive freedom, a belief in the constitutional justification for federal funding for stem cell research, gay rights, affirmative action,...a whole laundry list of liberal rights that are guaranteed, or at least, suggested with solid foundation, under our very liberal Constitution.
However, if you want to start sounding like the opposition, that is, the despicable GOP that you loathe so much, then keep it up, my pal. Keep on threatening any and all responders to your post with immediate explusion.
As I've said, many, many times before in response to YOUR posts, YOU are part of the problem, my friend. And that saddens me and saddens a lot of our camp, many of whom you wish to count as your own.

...The most damaging words of all:....
...Complain if you want, I really don't care...
Wow. Pretty ugly. Anybody think the above represents a good thing? Very sad indeed.
I think we all have gathered from your posts, multifariousone, that you don't won't reconciliation at all; rather, you want your own version of liberalism. That, coincidentally, may be MY own version of liberalism, just as it may be yours--as well as most liberals--but it is NOT entirely everyone's version of liberty, or the Supreme Court's. Any kind of action that encroaches upon my own liberty--or someone else's as he or she may see it--is not liberty at all.
In other words, please, take your blinders off, perhaps a bit of advice we would offer our more conservative, strident friends. I think the advice is well-put here, mr. "multifariousone."
If you don't like my posts or my positions you have no need to read or comment on them. Just hit the ignore button.
Frankly I haven't the faintest idea what you are talking about anyway.....
I haven't the faintest idea what you are talking about
What I'm talking about is that you seem to be every bit as eaten up with hatred and intolerance and narrow-minded condemnation that you accuse conservatives of in almost every single post of yours. My apologies if I've mistaken your intent, but your words seem pretty clear to me: You're very discriminating as to whom you think deserves tolerance and who doesn't.
Of course, not every Muslim is a radical jihadist. But to gloss over the fact that radicalism is indeed pervasive enough in Islam to be a genuine security threat to this country is, imho, misguided. Telling it like it is doesn't have to indict every single Muslim in the world. Going overboard to sing the praises of Islam is just as inaccurate as branding every Muslim as a terrorist.
We have a constitution. It guarantees us all equality. I believe in that.
I have seen the site of the Japanese AMERICAN internment camp in the California desert where we imprisoned peace loving AMERICAN people who were guilty of absolutely nothing but having Japanese ancestry.
Lest we forget.....
Agree 100%. That equality that you and I agree upon does not mean preferential treatment. Minorities, especially those that have, shall we say, an "extra burden to bear," like good and decent Muslims, or good and decent white Southerners, or good and decent Republicans, or good and decent African Americans, or good and decent Jews, or good and decent Iraqis, or good and decent Saudis...
Yes. They deserve honesty and fairness. What criminals do NOT deserve, multifariousone, is a "break" because they're a member of a frequently defiled group.
The fact is that Maj. Hasan had, as far as we know so far, documented radical Islamist beliefs and connections, and to downplay those facts is every bit as prejudicial as over-playing them for racist, politically inflammatory reasons.

We do not know that at all. God IS good.
The evidence, so far, shows that Hasan did indeed have radical Islamist connections, and some have extrapolated from those connections, probably radical Islamist beliefs. Using your very same logic, then we don't know if Palin or Limbaugh or "tea-baggers" have radical right-wing evangelical connections or beliefs, because God IS good.
I don't buy it for a moment, not only because I don't know if God is good or if he even exists, and in the public arena, it's totally irrelevant. Palin, Limbaugh, "some" tea-baggers," Hasan et al. all look, walk and quack like radical ducks. If they are indeed not, then they need to stop lying and hanging around with the "wrong" people. The issue here I was trying to discuss is simply that of reporting the facts as we know them so far, honestly and accurately and with the proper attribution. Doing so in no way should impugn all good and decent Muslims or good and decent conservatives and religious people.
Have a nice day.
Have a nice day.
and you as well.
multifariousone, just so we're on the same page...
Can you agree or not agree with the basic point I'm trying to make in my 4.3 above? If you don't agree with the basic premise, can you explain.
You and I can have differing political viewpoints as far as how far to the right or to the left we want to go on a specific issue; that's one thing. However, what I'm talking about here is more about simple honesty and accuracy, or what I think is involved in reporting a story honestly and accurately.
