Josheph Lieberman - Jackal

Joseph Lieberman and George Bush.

advertisement

I can think of no more contemptible person in politics in America today than Joseph Lieberman.

Yesterday's announcement, on Fox no less, that "We don't know enough to say now, but there are very, very strong warning signs here that Dr. Hasan had become an Islamist extremist and, therefore, that this was a terrorist act," Mr. Lieberman added.".

According to an article that appeared in yesterday's edition of the ultra-conservative Wall Street Journal "Lieberman told Fox News' Chris Wallace, "the murder of these 13 people was a terrorist act, and the most destructive terrorist act on U.S. soil since 9/11″, but he added at the end of that statement, "we don't know enough to say." The addition of course was self serving double dealing and his vain attempt to justify the need for him to open investigations.

General George Casey, appearing yesterday on 3 Sunday talk news shows had something quite different to say. As was widely reported the Army chief of staff said on Sunday that he was concerned that speculation about the religious beliefs of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, accused of killing 12 fellow soldiers and one civilian and wounding dozens of others in a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, could "cause a backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers."

"I've asked our Army leaders to be on the lookout for that," General Casey said in an interview on CNN's "State of the Union. "It would be a shame — as great a tragedy as this was — it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well."

Meanwhile Lieberman is leading the rightist drumbeat in the Senate against the "public option" and many are calling for the Senate Democratic leadership to strip Lieberman of his chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security Committee in retaliation for his free-swimming on health care reform.

What a cunning political move Lieberman made yesterday. Cunning. Also dishonest and one that is potentially more damaging to the American military than anything that has come along in decades.

Lieberman's motivation in calling for these investigations is a ploy to undermine the ability of Senate Democrats to control him and to probably an attempt to avoid ethics investigations into his and his wife's ties to major health insurers located in his home state of Connecticut.

The truth is that he doesn't care one bit about the welfare of the Army. He would touch off violence within the Army in order to keep his chairmanship and his political power.

Imagine if you will what the reaction would be from Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and all the rest of their ilk if the Democrats were to strip Lieberman of his chairmanship. They would eviscerate the Democrats claiming that the reason he was stripped was not for his opposition to his party's position on health care reform but because the Democrats are weak on national security and are protecting Islamo fascists, or Islam terrorists or whatever it is that they now call them. They would probably once again raise the bogus claims about President Obama's ties to Muslims and drag up as much lying filth as they could. Beck's blackboard would be smoking.

So keep in mind when you hear spurious claims that what happened at Ft. Hood was a terrorist attack that there are powerful political interests that want you to see it that way. People who are more concerned with their own political power than they are the welfare of our troops and and the health of our military forces.

Lieberman will ultimately be drummed out but in the meantime we should all understand that he cares more about his personal power than he does the welfare of the United States of America.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Ever since his affiliation with Bush and McCain he seems to have picked up on the keep Americans scared program. He seems to find terrorists hiding in every woodpile as of late. All his comments will succeed in doing is to add fuel to the flames. Followers of Allah are no different than followers of anything else there is a faction that is good and one that is bad but it is the people that are bad not the concept. This is likened to declaring all catholics inquisitors or all Israelis members of the Hagana. Use what little sense you have left Joe and put a lid on it.

#1: have picked up on the keep Americans scared program.

I made a similar comment on yesterday on another NV thread. This guy, lieberman, seems intent on keeping "FEAR" in the minds of the American people, and is willing to use it as the ever-present "hammer". He is promoting a hateful stereotype model against Muslims in general.

And don't forget that lieberman is adamantly pro-israel and feels that President Obama is not as supportive of "his israel" as other previous Presidents have been. Thus liebermann is "singing a song of support" for israel by trying to undermine the Muslim world by having the citizens of the United States hate the Muslim world.

Early this morning I e-mailed his office stating I felt he was being irresponsible and could possibly facilitate further violence with this rush to judgement statement. He, along with FOX news personalities such as Kimberly Guilfoyle and Jeanne Pierro, need to get out on the "streets" to see how easily some people can be "incited".

Josheph is at least towing the old Democratic Line. To bad the Democrats have pulled in the Super Left, and now the Super Left is the Democratic Party.

Remember the good old days, when the Democrats actually made sense and were REALLY for the people, without change after change, after change, just to get one bill passed?

Talk about no gut Democrat's anymore (They have the power and don't know how to use it)!

They can't make up their minds nor do they care for the folks (reference no fix, ever, on monorities problems. They need the votes and fix nothing. Its a vote getter for them every election year).

Lieberman is an ultra-conservative on today's political scale. He maybe a 1050's Democrat but the world and the country has moved along.

He is a pariah.

That said, I'm disappointed in the Democrats as well. They are not using their power as their constituents want them to. They should be kicking sxxt and taking names.

Health care. Big F'en deal. We need to keep working. The other few millions have been getting Health care and everything else, on our dime, and this isn't going to change anything, except getting us on the government coat tails and cost us more money.

I can easily see why. When you take out the "medical equation" as something you have to "worry" about that will cause you and our family to consider filing for bankruptcy, that's enough to help alleviate a lot of fear and anxiety.

Combine that with a person "having to hold onto a job" simply because that job provides insurance coverage, I would say is another "hammer" being used to keep employees and does not make that employee too happy about going to a job they hate -and it shows. I can see that this is one reason there is so much absenteeism and just plain complacency in the American workforce. These people work just hard enough "NOT" to get fired! They merely go through the motions.

This saddled with the bigotry and hate endemic to this country is enough to make anyone unhappy! How awful and sad the state of affairs.

So as long as you're OK, too bad for the rest of us, right? So typically self-centered conservative crap.

I understand, Obama doesn't understand, or he wouldn't need to pass the baton to other Morons, to make an inept bill, which, by the way, creates nothing more than a needy state.

Would you have preferred that he dictate what reform will be, without the input of any of our elected representatives? Are you referring to such "needy states" as Sweden, Switzerland, Germany?

Where are the job creations Visioncoast? Was that a lie, and now you want to believe this Health bill will be a good thing, when the job creation has been put to the back burner? Shovel Ready myass.

Things are not moving quickly, not nearly as quickly as they did under FDR, notably the CCC. This is partly why even Obama supporters are becoming more and more critical of him every day. But what are you people looking for, a miracle? How many major problems are on the plate? I'm sure you could find all the perfect answers and enact them in record time. Or, if you want perfection, elect a messiah, not a human being.

But answer my original question to you: What about the American economic systems works for the masses?

Would you have preferred that he dictate what reform will be

He already did during his election speeches. He's now passed the baton, because he doesn't have a clue what to do.

Here's a simple thought!!! Put the money in the job market, instead of giving Brazil 2 billion for oil exploration and lining Soro's pocket. How about, instead of trillions for a few, send those trillions to the many, then there will be money for the few, when the many make more money and pay more taxes.

What about the American economic systems works for the masses?

Funny! No one screamed about this, before this year. Wonder what changed. I know, the "PROMISE OF CHANGE". Yep, that's working quite well.

What about those of us who don't qualify for a policy because of preexisting conditions, can't afford $1,000 a month, can't find a job to get employer-backed insurance? Do you really think only of you and your own? You'd rather just throw all of those people under the bus because you and your family are OK? The rest of us should just die, be chronically ill or go bankrupt? What kind of person thinks like this?

I assumed to much? That's what he got elected for, not me, but that's why others elected him into office.

Yes, you assumed too much. Anyone who thought Obama was going to single-handedly write health insurance reform legislation and get it passed is, well, to be nice, naive. I doubt anyone...anyone at all...expected Obama to take on this behemoth challenge without allowing yours and my representatives to contribute to it. Of course, Republicans want a "Republican" plan. I've yet to hear of any number of Republicans who sat down with Democrats to craft a plan together. If that's wrong, kindly enlighten me with a credible source.

I wasn't duped like the others, who actually assumed. I'm old school, you make a promise or shake my hand, you need to live up to what was agreed to.

Do you know anything about politics? GWB also told us he was a fiscally responsible, compassionate conservative, remember? Come on. You know better than this.

Just for you:

What about the American economic systems works for the masses?

What doesn't work? Its worked for 85% of the American Population, when it comes to Health Coverage (those are the percentages of happy customers, in case you didn't know that) , and it supplies jobs to those that can't start their own business, pays for their insurance through the company they work for, pays for their mortgage, car payment, fun, vacations, electric bills, water bills, Food etc...

Lets see government pull that off, with no deficit spending!

Better for you!

Back to your comments:

The rest of us should just die, be chronically ill or go bankrupt? What kind of person thinks like this?

Grayson? How come this didn't come to the forfront until this year. Where were you screaming about the dying and the dead, because of insurance, and don't give me the garbage that you and others didn't have a voice.

Yes, you assumed too much

Not me, I didn't vote for the guy. You all did, based on what he told you, and you've been screwed. Health Legislation, is not going to be passed, as you would like to see, and further more, you will pay into the system, up to five years, before you see any benefits. What a deal, don't ya think?

How about the fact that it's a feudal system that benefits the top 1 percent at the expense of the rest? So many Americans just don't understand what's happening right in front of them...

Greg, I'm about to give up on you. We've all been watching individuals and small business lose insurance affordability over the last several years. Millions of us have been threatened by this greedy business for years, and now it's coming home to roost. Wait till you catch up with the rest of us. Maybe then you'll get it.

And now that we're finding our voice and the issue is being addressed, conservatives scream "Don't mess with me! I'm good! I don't care about the rest of you as long as my family and I are safe!" This conceit makes me want to vomit.

Not me, I didn't vote for the guy.

Maybe not, but you expect any one politician, even those with the best of intentions, to be able to live up to all his or her campaign promises? Come on, get real. Nobody who's ever occupied the oval office has done that. Only the naive are so stupid.

This is an unfortunate understatement from Gen. Casey. Not only would it be "a shame" to string up cultural diversity because of ignorance and fear, reacting in such a way is antithetical to everything it is to be American.

UMMM! HELLO!

No middle of the road politician would have put forth the stuff, and I mean stufff, being put out now. Cap and Trade (Al Gore to make millions along with companies trading poisen tickets) Health Care (That has no rhyme or reason to justify penalizing the many), forcing, fining, taxing and putting up fee's to the population, that's just trying to stay afloat etc..

You find that middle of the road.

Middle of the road, would take into account, the normal guy, instead of funding the likes of ACORN, SEIU, Brazil for oil drilling, promising billions to overseas companies, Billions for more relief to everybody but us, Billions to California to save the Salt marshes etc...

Middle of the Road?

Lets do the big experiment. Lets actually send those billions and trillions to the folks and the small business man, then we can really see what will happen to this economy. What would 1.2 trillion do (New House Health Bill cost), if everybody making under 250 thousand received a chunk of that?

Now that would be an economic boom!

There's a difference between competence and ideology. As well as the specifics of these policies do not make the case for any left wing agenda.

For example, the cap and trade, which I find flawed as well, is hardly a far left idea on combat against pollution or climate change (unless you're a denier).

This health care insurance is nothing close to the hyperbole criticisms put out there. Its no way anything close to a single payer system - nor asking a raise in immediate taxes but will likely increase a deficit by a small percentage of an already huge amount, which isn't again, a leftist ideology. A government exercising consumer protection isn't a far left ideology.

The normal guy is suppose to be taken into account at any point on the spectrum, whether far left or far right. It has nothing to do in having centrist beliefs. You could have centrist beliefs and still be incompetent or corrupt.

The ACORN fear, again is hyperbole, where the purpose of the organization was to register the 'normal' guy - actually the 'poor' guy - but clearly there was abuse found and reported by the organization themselves.

Yes, I would agree that supporting a labour union would be a center to left ideology. However the concept is hardly far left nor 'radical' and quite very old and not alien to the right.

This billions bail out policy is controversial, but again it isn't a full left nor right thing, and more on the initiative of the Feds. Question is how best the government and the Feds manage it.

Again, like I point out, the idea of a far leftist agenda, barely exists. I cannot say the same for the opposition party on the otherside of the spectrum.

What are the Fines, Fee's and Taxes, including a requirement you purchase Health Insurance, if you don't have it.

What is the 1.2 Trillion cost, being proposed by the House bill, going to do to the deficit?

The ACORN fear, again is hyperbole, where the purpose of the organization was to register the 'normal' guy - actually the 'poor' guy - but clearly there was abuse found and reported by the organization themselves.

Good talking points. Must be on the same par as their own founder stealing millions, and they wouldn't report it, ON THEIR OWN. Wonder who got the bucks?

Do you have anything that's middle of the road, or just a defense of the Left, not being Left.

I'm not sure whether you mean 'middle of the road' as dead center between actual left or right defined ideologies, or being between the shifted Democrats or the far Republicans.

The cost is over a 10 year course, and the deficit isn't any better now.

The fines are definitely a point of contention, however this penalty is also surprisingly is introduced by the Baucas bill. They maybe viewing it like the same as mandatory car insurance, but there are obvious differences. But I'll concede, like the labor union, this is a center to left idea, but unlike labor unions, very new or 'radical' to the States (but older with other nations), since it'll be made mandatory. Congrats, Greg - a leftist conspiracy exposed.

Again, for ACORN, ideology and competence or corruption don't equal. ACORN's founder's brother was the one who embezzled the money from the organization and instead of reporting it out of fear of being attacked by opposition groups they kept it internal, which was wrong.

That's not a leftist agenda.

Pretty much my whole point is about the Left not being the Left. And again am pointing out that many of their policies are centrist or rightist. One such view being the wars themselves, as leftists would have abandoned the campaigns. Rise of defence spending is supported amongst them, while social programs do not meet the same rise. The non-protectionism of US jobs and encouragement to overseas companies in free-trade.

One of the most disturbing images from yesterday's Tea Party rally against health care reform on Capitol Hill was a protester's gruesome sign showing a pile of dead Holocaust victims. The banner — captured by ThinkProgress here — read: "National Socialist Health Care: Dachau, Germany – 1945."

Yesterday's announcement, on Fox no less, that "We don't know enough to say now, but there are very, very strong warning signs here that Dr. Hasan had become an Islamist extremist and, therefore, that this was a terrorist act," Mr. Lieberman added.".

The Republican and Democratic Parties should be ashamed of themselves for not speaking out. Should be ashamed but they are not, politicians know no shame.

I can think of no more contemptible person in politics in America today than Joseph Lieberman.

Are you serious? You've got to be kidding. Lieberman? You honestly think Lieberman has this much power? Multifariousness: Are you kidding? Come onnnn.

He's the Senator from Tel Aviv. His hope is that he can get the US to send Americans to die in some other proxy war for Israel, preferably against the people of Iran. He's sucking up to the right-wing to further that cause. He's a detestable little man who won't appear in public here in Connecticut. He stays hidden away. That's a testament to the sort of "representative" he is.

He's gone in the next election. I'm dedicated to seeing him gone. I'll work every spare moment for his opponent if need be. I hate Joe Lieberman and what he represents.

I can't stand to even look at him; I consider him a traitor, and I don't even live in your state! That's just how nauseating he has become. I wish you all could vote him out tomorrow.

This part of the article stands out to me:

"..........................an attempt to avoid ethics investigations into his and his wife's ties to major health insurers located in his home state of Connecticut."

Whether this statement is 100% true or not, it is the public perception of Washington today.

The ability of corporations and trade groups to influence public discussion and policy either directly or through third parties, is wrong.

It makes the entire process suspect and makes compromise ( an honest attempts to find real solutions to our problems) almost impossible. Each side is convinced that the other is either a lackey for a group or industry or has been bought and paid for. Most times this is not far off the mark.

We need to change the rules or nothing much will change.

This is the CHANGE I CAN BELIEVE IN. (Although I believe in that other change too...)

You bet. And it's the most important thing that we can advocate for.

Stone 5150: You are right, but I continue to believe good things come to those who wait.

AND I AM WAITING FOR .... some rich guy to pay to have slogans painted on the sides of buses..... and send them around the country with a bunch of loud people.......championing campaign finance, pac and election reform.

Forget the tea baggers, this could be the rise of the BROWN BAGGERS....average people...whose only agenda is a more fair process....and stopping for lunch.

Lets face it , The United States Congress.... is the institution that brought us those great banking and finance rules that have done so much for our economy lately.

I guess they figured that since self regulation has worked so well for them.... why not export it to wall street and the banking industry....you know share the wealth.

Senate ethics committee: THE MOTHER OF ALL OXYMORON

We repeatedly blame the individual and expend all our anger on them for their misdeeds, when it's the institution's rules that are the real problem.

What's in your wallet????? The Good Hands People ..... At this moment it's the insurance industry......... but usually it's Congress (Democrat and Republican...THERE IS NO ONE PARTY BETTER THAN THE OTHER WHEN IT COMES TO PILLAGING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ...THEY EACH HAVE IT MASTERED.... it's just different roads to the same destination.)

People say we need a viable 3rd party as a solution, but if the rules don't change...that 3rd party will be as responsive to the will of the people as the first two....NOT VERY.

The institution can't be trusted to self regulate.

You want to make your position known, write your congressman or shut up....That should be the law of the land.

I for one resent having political discussion driven by groups bigger than one.
